Full disclosure, this post has some total fan girl gushing. Last year I was introduced to the band Vox Vidorra, i can’ t remember if the first time i saw them perform was at a bar, or at a Dance in the Annex event, but i remember going to both and each time being blown away by Molly Bousma’s voice. When their album dropped earlier this year i downloaded it knowing it would be amazing and it took over my summer play lists. Each time i was in the studio i was throwing on my headphones and listening to the album over, and over…. and over…. and over.
For someone who obsessively digs into their psyche while in the studio, Promise Land is a perfect album. While hashing though questions and ideas about racial inequity and racism, Vox Vidorra’s song lyrics are powerful and relevant. During sweeter songs, relationships take center stage along with questions about identity and self.
This spring WYCE was auctioning house concerts and Vox Vidorra was one of the shows. I spent the better part of the day obsessing over the idea of having my current favorite band playing a show in my back yard. During the last 5 minutes of the auction, Annamarie, Taylor and I swooped in and snagged the show. In mid July we threw a back yard bbq and house show. and it was DAMN GOOD.
Here are a few pictures of one of the best parties of the summer, with the best band in town. Thank you to Molly, Scott, Theo and Ryan for supporting WYCE and making such an amazing album, i can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
